There are records of pay given to mercenary knights, knights on campaign, and various other military men. A record of 1300 says a knight was paid 2 shillings (24 pence) each day, while an infantryman received from 2 to 8 pence, and a squire got 1 shilling. See the link below.

Yes. They probably didn't call it taxes. Also they were required to have a standing army available for use by the King or Queen. In exchange for these payments and loyalty, the King or Queen would give them land on which they would rent to farmers and others who paid the Lord, Duke, or whatever they title. Depending on the fertility of the land and the profits that are able to be made, would determine whether or not it was a good deal for the Lord. Loyalty was often times rewarded with more and better land.

children of knights in the middle ages had to stay with they're mum , however if they did not have a mother then they would have to take care of themselves or get sent to the country side with all the other kids .
