SteveAs someone who lives in Hawaii, I can tell you that it all depends on their purpose here. As tourists, they contribute greatly to our economy. When they come here to live, it is a different story. Many of them that come here come from poorer countries and cannot afford to live here like many of the rest of us already here. The cost of living is too high and they end up bogging down the welfare system. There is not enough help out here in the islands for all those who need it. When they come as immigrants, they end up hungry and many end up on the beaches like hundereds of other homeless here. I have heard many locals here say that they don't mind the foreigners as long as they leave. Our islands already have too many.
