The New Deal was the name given FDR's plan to get the US out of the depression. The New Deal expanded government intervention into new areas of social and economic affairs and the creation of more social assistance agencies at the national level were created. The relationship between the national government and the people changed drastically. The government took on a greater role in the everyday social and economic lives of the people. The "Brain Trust" referred to advisors to FDR, Raymond Moley, Rexford Guy Tugwell, Adolph A. Berle, Jr., Basil (Doc) O'Connor, Samuel Rosenman, and Hugh Johnson. These men developed FDR's economic policy and developed programs that became the backbone of the New Deal. This included regulation of the banks, regulation of the Stock Market, relief and public works programs, like the CCC and WPA.
