Suetonius (Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus) wrote what we now call The Twelve Caesars. This is not the original title. This work was called De Vita Caesarum, whose literal translation is 'About the Life of the Caesars.' It covered the lives of the first eleven Roman emperors (Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, Galba, Otho, Vitellius, Vespasian, Titus and Domitian) and the life of Julius Caesar.

What are the similarities and differences between the roman empire and the US media?

A minority of Roman writing was similar to tabloid journalism. Some witters loved to write gossip-like stories and stories of debauchery. Most prominent among these was Suetonius, a historian. He wrote "The lives of the Twelve Caesar" which were biographies of twelve emperors. These biographies were full of stories of lust, indecency, perversion, lasciviousness, immorality, self-indulgence and even incest. Some of his writing was even worse that of tabloids. Since the Romans did not have newspapers, some of their writers, seemed to cater for the human taste for gossip and slander. In the case of Suetonius, it casts doubts on his qualities as a historian.
