โ 16y agoIn July 1932, the Nazi Party (National Socialist German Workers' Party) emerged as the largest party in the Reichstag, winning 37.4% of the votes. However, no single party had an outright majority, which led to a fragmented political landscape and difficulty in forming a stable government.
In the summer elections of 1932
There were two general elections in 1932. The Nazis' share of the vote was: July 1932: 37% November 1932: 34% In both elections they obtained a higher percentage of the vote than any other party.
In the 1932 general election Hitler's party won 22.5% of the vote in Berlin.
The last free elections took place in November 1932. However, some historians treat the election of 5 March 1933 as semi-valid.
During those two particular years Hitler managed to succeed in getting a large amount of support from the public (as it was after the depression of 1929). As a result, Hitler basically went from having a relatively small party to having the biggest single party in the Reichstag, consequently forcing Hindenberg (current President of Weimar Germany) to pick him as Chancellor. Why? having the biggest single party in the Reichstag meant that he had the most support. This was something that the previous Chancellor´s, Von Papen and Von Schleicher did not have.As the government of Germany was Democratic (in fact the most democratic system in the whole world at that time), nobody could get too much power. Thus, decisions were made by the Reichstag and the Chancellor. As the German economy suffered in the 1930s, it became only too clear that the democratic system was not working, made worse by no support in the Reichstag. Which is why the president had no choice but to pick someone who actually had support. Thanks, K.L; And STUDY FOR HISTORY... THIS SHOULD ALL BE IN YOUR TEXTBOOK! ;) ;) ;)
In the summer elections of 1932
The Nazi party became the largest political party in Germany following the 6th Reichstag elections on July 31, 1932. As a result of the election the Nazi party received 37.3% of the popular vote (an increase of 19%) and 230 seats in the Reichstag (an increase of 123)
In the July 1932 Reichstag (Parliamentary) elections, the Nazi Party gained 230 seats, making them the largest party in Parliament. In the November 1932 Reichstag elections, the number of seats gained by the Nazi Party fell to 196. However, they still held the majority and were well ahead of their nearest rivals - the Social Democrats (who had 121 seats). Therefore, overall the Nazi Party became the strongest political party during the 1932 German elections. This was because, in times of political instability and economic hardship, the German public favoured the extreme solutions offered by Hitler and the Nazis.
The largest political party in Germany in 1933 was the Nazi party which managed to increase its share of the vote from 33.1% during the Reichstag election of November 6, 1932, to 43.9% at the March 5 1933 election.
