∙ 15y agoThe Civil Rights Movement gained momentum because of physical pressure. People were increasingly intolerant of intolerance and often reacted violently. Peaceful leaders also had great influence.

The Civil Rights movement led to the introduction of legislation that made it to discriminate against people based on ethnic background or religion. A consequence of this was that it should be illegal to commit violence against people on the basis of groups to which they belong.

Different Buddhist schools may offer slightly different answers to this question. However as I understand the teachings our liberation is completely in our own hands. Certain conditions may be more favourable than others but access to favorable conditions is the result of our own previous actions.
