It split the government in half. It created a definite line of north and south. It allowed Kansas to have slavery and Nebraska to have no slavery.
Everywhere West of Missouri. The line of latitude at Missouri's Southern border was taken as the dividing line. North of that line, slavery was illegal. South of it, slavery could be practised.

The Missouri Compromise was repealed in the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which says that all states/territories above the 36 degrees 30 minutes latitude line were free states.

The Missouri Compromise was effectively ended by the Kansas-Nebraska Act, however since there was still turmoil as to the "Bleeding Kansas" dispute, it was thought that the Kansas-Nebraska Act would be shortly overturned. The Dred Scott decision by the Supreme Court further strengthened the elimination of the Missouri Compromise and the institution of slavery north of the Mason-Dixon Line by ruling that slaves were not able to take cases to court.
Kansas-Nebraska act helped shaped nebraska southern border during civil war and slavery. On the southwest border with Colorado and western border of nebraska into wyoming its shaped like a panhandle due to the way the surveryors wanted colorado and wyoming to be shaped. Gold and and silver was very important to colorado and wyoming so they shifted nebraska western half to be a panhandle. The northern border with South Dakota was influenced by missouri river and so surveyors drew a straight line from the river west on 43 paralell north to wyoming. On the eastern border with Iowa the missouri river was a major influence of the eastern border.
A provision allowed for Nebraska to vote down the line on their status as Free or Slave.
