The typical Norse Scandinavian viking had long flowing hair, ranging in the usual colors of blonde, brown, red and black. The darker the hair, the uglier the person was regarded. They kept their hair long as it showed spiritual and physical potency, as hair is something that grows out from within the person.
The vikings were very clean, having had combs, scissors, and soap. They even had one day of the week named after washing. "Latherdaeg" was their Saturday. Sometimes lye would be left in the soap so those with darker hair could "bleach" it and make it fairer.
Vikings prided themselves on their grooming, as a neat and kept person was more respectable than an unwashed, scraggy person.
It should be noted that the Christians at the time did not bathe at all, as it required the person to be naked, and to touch themselves. It also showed pride in one's body. These are of course, sinful. It has been recorded by monks that the Heathens would bathe and comb them their hair to steal away the Christian women.

Blonde hair and blue eyes are not exclusively Viking traits. While some Vikings may have had these features, they are not exclusive to Viking ancestry. These traits can be found in populations across various regions and are influenced by genetic and environmental factors.

Scandinavian women were renowned for their beautiful blonde hair and good looks. Their hair was fine, silky, soft, and shiny, also very strong. One story says how a man wanted a lock of his wife's hair to make a bow string. Their hair usually hung around the shoulder blades and was kept in a single brade or pilates. Viking men on the other hand had the same quality of hair, only less shiny and not as beautiful. Slightly coarser than their women, Viking men were just a proud of their hair, inventing the comb for their own use, and using it every single day. They sometimes wore their hare short, but when it was long, it was either braded or pulled back into a ponytail held with a leather strap. Who can talk about Viking hair without mentioning the beards? Of course Viking women had no beards, but their men had the best ever seen. Their beards were the same quality and shininess as their women's hair. Very smooth and silky by comparison to other men's coarse and rather wooly beards. Part of this was do to the constant attention that the men gave their beards, always making sure they were very clean. Anon.
