The 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution grants important civil rights. These are the civil rights to religion, speech, petition, assembly and press.
The 19th amendment gave the women the right to vote. There was an Equal Rights Amendment passed by Congress in 1972, but it is three states short of the required 38 needed to ratify it and add it to the Constitution.
The 10th amendment to the United States Constitution applies the Bill of Rights to the states. The amendment is a guarantee to all US citizens.
