The Bull Mill was the first mill built in the new industrial city of Paterson founded by the Society of Useful Manufactures (SUM) which was the chartered company that founded Paterson NJ and established a network of raceways using the water power from the Passaic River (at the Great Falls). The mill was first powered by oxen, since it was set up before the raceway system was established.
