Inherited social class is based on the Caste System, a system of social stratification in India. The caste system traditionally consisted of five major castes: the brahmins, or priests; the kshatriyas, or warriors; the vaisyas, or merchants; the sudras, or laborers; and the harijans, or untouchables. One's caste was believed to be inherited and was thought to dictate one's limitations and opportunities in life. Marriage outside of one's caste was prohibited. Many reforms have been made since the onset of the caste system, however. Once enacted, the Indian Constitution outlawed discrimination based on caste in order to ensure democracy. Nevertheless, the caste system survives in some rural areas of modern India.

social class was an ordering of people. People at the top were considered higher than the bottom. At the bottom was "untouchables" the lowest usually orphans and slaves. Then you had the ordinary people, generally poor. Next, were merchant's and craftsmen. Then you had rulers and warriors, second highest. At the top were the Hindu Priests. These are t he main social classes even though they are many others

People from each social class could only spend time with other people from their class. If someone disobeyed they would be kicked out of the city and become an untouchable.

When Buddhism was devoloping in India at the same time during 700 BCE , it became the dominant religion it was apposed.

Note: at one time there was 400 social classes

How is India's caste system different from the Aryan social class system?

India's caste system is a complex social hierarchy based on birth, with individuals belonging to specific hereditary social categories, whereas the Aryan social class system was a simpler division into four main groups - Brahmins (priests), Kshatriyas (warriors), Vaishyas (merchants), and Shudras (laborers). The caste system in India is more rigid and stratified compared to the Aryan social class system.
