Illinois became a free state in 1787,when the important men of the United States of Ordinance stated in Article 6, which I think was one of the Union's amendments,which says:There shall be neither slavery nor involuntary servitude in the said territory, otherwise than in punishment of crimes whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.Towards the second decade of the 19th century, all of Illinois wanted to become part of the Union, whether they were against slavery or liked it.
