Marthe Corey was an intelligent and innocent victim of the 1962 Salem Witch Trials. She was a religious woman who disagreed with the witch trials from the start, accusing the young girls of lying. She was accused of witchcraft in March of 1692 after her husband stated that her reading sometimes kept him from praying. Her husband, Giles, immediately resented disclosing this piece of harmless information after Martha was accused. After defending his wife, Giles was accused of witchcraft, and crushed to death 3 days before Martha after refusing a trial. Martha was hanged on September 22, 1962 after refusing to accept the accusations against her.
