John J. Pershing led over 600,000 American troops in an attack on Germany. The attack occurred on September 26th, 1918. The Germans inflicted many casualties on the American troops, but by early November of 1918, the American Troops had broken through German defenses, and opened a hold on the eastern flank of the German lines. Soon after the Germans began to retreat and this was the end of WW1.
