The English surname Bond is a status name for a peasant farmer. From the Middle English word bonde, and the Old Norse word bóndi. The status of the peasant farmer fluctuated considerably during the Middle Ages. Among Germanic peoples, the term came to signify a farmer bound by loyalty to a lord. This developed the sense of a free landholder as opposed to a serf. In England after the Norman Conquest the word sank in status and became associated with the notion of bound servitude.
The word is medieval.
It is Latin (medi + aevum) for Middle Ages. It has been called the Dark Ages but that term is falling out of favor. The Medieval period ends, I believe, around the time of the Enlightenment. The Middle Ages lasted from about AD 350 to 1450.
Medival is an incorrect spelling of medieval, which means "middle ages."
It is the ancient times before the Middle Ages.
"Un bourgeois" was originally an inhabitant of the 'bourg' (big village or small town), and not a peasant. The term has come to mean 'middle-class'.
