The Declaration of Independence formally notified King George IV (the 3rd) of the Patriot's intentions.

It had 3 main ideas:

1.) Jefferson wrote that all men possess unalienable rights including "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".

2.) The British had violated all of the colonist's rights, so Jefferson listed all the violations and subsequent grievances against the British.

3.) The colonies are going to break away. Since the king broke the social contract, the Patriots formed a new country; The United States of America.

Hope this helps!! :) Good luck!
