The United States was established due to the American Revolution. On April 19, 1775 the first shots were fired in the war on Concord Bridge and on July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed. This began a war that would end in the surrender of British forces at Yorktown. In 1789 the Constitution was finished and signed and Washington became our first President.
