The entertainments of women was similar to that of men. Roman women were not confined in the house like Greek women. They met up with friends in the street regularly. Like most Romans, they went to the baths which were also place for socialising, exercising and playing sports. They also went to the forum to meet friends and to participate in public debates. They also went to the many public games which were scheduled during the year, chariot races, gladiatorial games and religious festivals. Women who could afford it went to the theatre. Originally women dined together, but by the Late Republic they attended dinner parties. Despite objection by conservatives, educated women also started to voice their opinions in public matters, even though they were not allowed to take an active role in politics.
Roman boys played war games and fights with wooden swords. They also played "Troy" (lusus Troiae) was a team game which involved resisting a pack of kids outnumbering you, who tired to drag you across a line. Roman girls played with rag, wax or clay dolls. Some dolls had jointed limbs. They also played Board Games and ball games.
Toys used by both sexes were balls, bats, board games, hobbyhorses, hoops driven with sticks, kites, ivory letter, skipping ropes, stilts and yo-yos. Pebbles were used like marbles. There were swings and seesaws. Children also had little cart and they put dogs, ponies or goats on them. They made models of animals and people. Games were odd or even (one child held stones in a closed hand, the other guessed if they were an odd or even number) blindman's buff, dice, hide and seek, knucklebones (this was similar to jack, but with bones) and leapfrog.
Roman children also played with pets. They were dogs the favourite pets and many pets were birds: , ducks, geese, quails and pigeons. Cats started being pets around the 1st century AD. Pet monkeys were known of, but were rare.
The romans used to sleep, drink wine and eat in their spare time. They would also go around the town and look for slaves and interesting market stalls.
