There has not been a Queen (or King) of England for over 300 years. England is a part of, but not the same as, The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. During World War 2 the British monarch was King George VI and his wife and Queen Consort was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
From September 1939, with the outbreak of the World War II, Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, the future Queen of England, and her younger sister, Margret, stayed at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, until Christmas 1939, when they moved to Sandringham House, Norfolk. From February to May 1940, they lived at Royal Lodge, Windsor, until moving to Windsor Castle, where they stayed for most of the next five years.
Yes, Queen Elizabeth was involved in World War 2 when she was a Princess of about 18 years or more of age. She served in the Royal nurses corps. I can't remember the fancy name of that nursing group, sorry. Her entire family, including her father, King George, all participated in the war, even Elizabeth's younger sister was allowed to help with war tasks (you know in things like bandage rolling, recycling, encouraging kids, etc).
Princess Elizabeth's contribution to the war brought about many improvements in Royal military service.
(Ah, I found it. This comes from one of our partners, Wikipedia under the heading of Elizabeth the II.)
"Elizabeth was educated privately at home. Her father, George VI, became King-Emperor of the British Empire in 1936. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, in which she served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. After the war and Indian independence George VI's title of Emperor of India was abandoned, and the evolution of the Empire into the Commonwealth accelerated. In 1947, Elizabeth made the first of many tours around the Commonwealth, and married Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh."
