Current Egyptians most probably cremate or bury their dead. The Ancient Egyptians Mummified their dead. To do so, they:
1. Used salts[natron] to remove moisture from the body - preserved flesh
2. Anointed with oils and perfumes
3. Covered in natron to speed up dehydration and prevent decomposition
4. Placed finger and toe protectors on the mummy
5. Wrapped it with strips of white linen to protect from damage
6. Wrapped it in a sheet of canvas

7. Sacred Charms and Amulets were then placed on or around the corpse
-Intended to protect mummy from harm and protect the Ka of the person
-Ka: Fifth part of an Egyptians soul. It is the 'Vital Essence' and distinguishes the living and dead.
-The Ka is a part of the afterlife. It reunites with the Ba[soul] to create the Akh - kind of like a ghost or dead being. The Akh may travel for judgement from Osiris for the final determination of the afterlife.
