∙ 8y agoThe United Nations passed the UNGA Resolution 181 (II) on November 29, 1947 that provided permission for the different ethno-religious groups in Mandatory Palestine to declare a state. In the case of most mandates, the understanding was that the mandate would eventually become independent as one new state, like Iraq or Syria had. The case of Palestine was therefore unique and needed the permission to deviate from the traditional path of independence. Because of there being two states, provisional borders had to be provided, which is why a map was used, but those borders would only come into play if both sides decided to remain at peace. The Jews acted on the permission granted to them by UN Resolution 181 by declaring independence on May 14, 1948 (nearly six months after the Resolution was passed) and therefore creating the State of Israel.

Yes. It has been since 1948, is a member of the United Nations, and has full mutual diplomatic relations with all but about 35 of the other UN member nations.
ZIONISM, the Jewish Nationalist Movement, led to the creation of the State of Israel in 1948.
The United Nations favored and arranged the formation of the new state of Israel. Most if not all of the civilized world favored having Israel. It is a democratic nation and the US and Israel have a great relationship. This will improve with whomever is the next US president.
It depends on what you are calling Palestine. If you are referring to the British Mandate for Palestine, as a mandate, the territory was subject to League of Nations final authority. The job of the British was to safeguard the territory on behalf of the League and to advance the modernization and independence of the territory in accordance with the provisions of the mandate. When the United Nations superseded the League of Nations, the United Nations became the final authority in adjudicating issues related to the Mandate. in 1947, the British decided to give the UN a voice in determining the future of the mandate. In UNGA Resolution 181 (II), the United Nations resolved to create two states: a Jewish State and an Arab State. This resolution sets up the groundwork and legal basis for the existence of two countries: Israel (the Jewish State) and Palestine (the Arab State). If you are referring to the current State of Palestine. It has unofficial recognition in the United Nations and has recognition in several UN organizations like UNESCO. Palestine continually pushes for increased recognition to have better leverage in determining its future vis-à-vis Israel.

The main role of the UN is to serve as a forum where nations may solve any issues affecting the realtions between them, it is not an organization empowered to solve situations by itself, all depends on the participation, good will and cooperation of the member nations themselves.
The relationship between the Holocaust and the creation of the state of Israel is more complex than is often suggested. The Holocaust was one significant factor. Another was the British Mandate to rule the area was due to expire anyway in 1948 and the United Nations had to make a decision about its future.
The citizens and administration of Israel did, in 1948. United Nations Resolution 181 only provided permission for Israel to declare a state. As said above, it was the Israelis who actually did the Declaring.
The United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine or United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181 was a plan approved by the United Nations on November 29, 1947 to terminate the British Mandate of Palestine by August 1, 1948 and recommend the creation of two states, one Jewish and one Arab, in Palestine. The plan was approved by the United Nations General Assembly by 33 votes to 13, with 10 abstentions.
The advantages of the creation of the state of Israel are first, that there is a country to which Jews may flee when they are victims of anti-Semitism, and second, that Jews who live in Israel will be satisfied that they are fulfilling a religious obligation to live in the specific land that was given to the Jews by God (according to the Torah). The disadvantages of the creation of the state of Israel are that this has created a conflict between the Israeli Jews and the Muslims in the middle east, who believe that Israel, formerly known as Palestine, was stolen from them by the Jews, and that Muslims are the ones who are religiously obligated to live there, not the Jews; in addition, the Arab-Israeli conflict has damaged relations between all the nations allied to Israel and all the nations seeking to destroy Israel, and this hostility is a fundamental source of international terrorism and the various wars that have resulted from that terrorism.
For the reasons why people hate Jews and Israel, please see the Related Question below (so that they need not be repeated here). As specifically concerns the United Nations, people that hate the Jews and Israel hate that the United Nations was responsible for granting Jews permission to declare the State of Israel.
