Marco Polo was born in Venetian Dalmatia (now in Croatia), a family of Venetian merchants. Marco Polo was a merchant and adventurer that traveled from Europe to Asia. In 1271, when Polo was about 17, he joined his father Niccolò and his uncle Maffeo for an enthralling journey to Asia where he met Kublai Khan. Polo recorded his travels in the book 'Il milione' (meaning The Million in English ). Also known as Travels of Marco Polo, 'Il milione' offers valuable information about Polo's adventure and his chronicles. He also traveled to China, among other places, and opened trading.

During the Renaissance, Marco polo traveled to Asia with his father and uncle to meet Kublai Khan. Khan was impressed with Marco so he sent him to China on a business trip. He wrote a book about being in China when he returned to Europe. This made many people want to buy goods from China and also helped china gain more activity.
