I think you mean heiroglyphics?
Actually hieroglyphic writing was invented more than once. The first and most famous instance was in ancient Egypt, some time before 3000 B.C. Independently but sometime later (between 650 and 500 B.C.), the Olmec or Zapotec civilization of Mesoamerica also invented a hieroglyphic writing system.
If you mean the pictogram like carvings you see on the walls they're called hieroglyphs.

They are called mother civilization because the invented writing.
The writing was called Heiroglyphics. Heiroglyphics were pictures and symbols for letters. The meaning of Heiroglyphics were found because of the Rosetta Stone. The Rosetta Stone had the Egyptian alphabet and the translation of it in greek. Since scientists had already decoded greek language, they were able to decode heiroglyphics.
Well, we will never know what they called it, but now we call them Heirogylphs or Heiroglyphics.
