The Civil Rights Movement was huge for the United States as a colony. While over two-hundred people were killed during the revolution, statistics indicate that the act was mostly non-violent. Here are the answers to your five w's, I hope I could help.
Who - Nelson Mandella led the movement. Originally from South Africa, he immigrated to America in his 20's. Looked upon as one of the most revolutionary people in the last decade for his work with the Civil Rights movement, he is now the oldest world leader, as he is now the Prime Minister of South Africa.
What - This was an act against racism and the ability for equal rights.
Where - The southern states mostly, (Texas, Louisianna, etc.) though it was pushed north as far as what is now New York City.
When - Around the late 1930's or early 1940's, the act took shape right after the great depression. Many parts of the movement still take affect today, for instance, many African-Americans take pride in their ancestors being part of such a great thing that helped shape the United States.
Why - This one is quite obvious. The blacks were not happy with the way they were being treated, so in attempt to change society, they rebelled.
I am a historian at Harvard University, and I hope this can help answer your questions.

Who, What, When, Where, Why. And sometimes How.
The headline of a newspaper typically summarizes the five Ws of the reporter's formula, which include who, what, when, where, and why.
In journalism, the Five Ws (also known as the Five Ws (and one H) or simply the Six Ws) is a concept in news style, research, and in police investigations that are regarded as basics in information-gathering. It is a formula for getting the "full" story on something. The maxim of the Five Ws (and one H) is that in order for a report to be considered complete it must answer a checklist of six questions, each of which comprises an interrogative word: * Who? * What? * Where? * When? * Why? * How?

Yes, a newspaper headline typically contains some of the five Ws: who, what, when, and where. The goal of a headline is to provide a concise summary of the article's main points to entice readers to learn more. The "why" may be implied or addressed in the article itself.
A five Ws organizer can be used during brainstorming sessions, project planning, problem-solving, decision-making, and research. It helps structure thoughts or information by answering key questions - who, what, where, when, and why.
