The Salem witch trials happened.
There were over 160 people accused of being involved in witchcraft - 19 were hanged and 1 was pressed to death. Also, there were five accused that died in the Salem Village jail (there may be as many as 13 more people who died in the Salem but the sources don't match, so no one knows), and there was one man who was crushed to death by having large stones pressed on him.
the Salem Witch trials were held in various locations dotted all over the USA from 1692-1693. The Salem Witch trials is the shortest Witch trial to be recorded in history.
The Salem trials only lasted a little more than one year, with 20 executions. The scale of your question suggests you might be confusing this with the Spanish Inquisition.
They ended in May, 1693.
The salem witch trials started because of a conflict between 2 families who lived in salem village, who argued about whether salem village should separate from salem town. Families in the village began taking sides and, after a couple weeks, the first accusation was made. Some teen girls in salem town were hearing a story from their nanny, Tituba, about black magic. Then, one of the girls started miming that they were being attacked by witches. One by one, the other girls started in. They accused Tituba of using witchcraft on them. The girls were part of the family that wanted to separate from salem village, while Tituba was one of the people who believed that they should not separate from salem village. After this first accusation, more and more people started accusing innocent people of witchcraft. More than 20 people were hung, and over 100 spent time in prison for witchcraft.

Oh, dude, in 1692, Salem probably looked like a quaint little town with some super judgmental people accusing others of witchcraft left and right. Like, they were really into that whole witch hunt thing, you know? So, picture some old-timey buildings, people wearing those funny hats, and a whole lot of drama over spells and broomsticks. It was like a real-life episode of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," but without the laugh track.
In Salem, none of the witches were burnt. Most of them were hung and two were crushed under stones. That is not true. over 150 people in Salem were convicted of witchcraft and almost all of them died. Many of them were burned, drowne or even stoned by the villagers.
