Civil war raged from 1220 to 1262. Resulting in ending Iceland´s sovereignty and placing it under the Norwegian crown, passing later to Denmark.

The only wars Iceland has actively participated were the Cod War (1952, 1972-6) and the second US invasion of Iraq (2003-6). No one died and only one person was injured in the Cod Wars. The governments decision to join president Bush´s "list of the willing" is highly disputed locally as it was never presented, let alone passed by the parlament.
