The Colony needed a name,The names of Massachusetts Bay and Virginia were already spoken for,Nothing had so far been named to honor the southern County of Hampshire in England and it was available and free. Perhaps some consideration was given to naming it after Queen Boudica and other locations like Northumbria or Wessex or Kent were surely also available. West Warwickshire or West Worcestershire may not even have been considered.Perhaps no-one will ever know for sure.
