Philip II, king of the Greek kingdom of Macedonia was killed by his personal bodyguard, Pausanias of Orestis. No one knows for sure why Pausanias betrayed Philip. Some say that Darius was behind the assassination to stop Philip marching against Persia, others theorise that it was Olympias and some also think it may have been Alexander himself in order to seize the throne. No record remains that gives us a definite answer so we must be satisfied with only speculations.
