The US war of independence is also known as the Revolutionary War. Rebels in the 13 American colonies fought against British rule. The colonials later had the help of France and Spain, who wanted Britain to have less power. The British used Native American tribes and German mercenaries (Hessians) supplied from Hesse, Hanover, or even Russia. The aid of the French navy, in particular, shortened the war and guaranteed the victory of the new United States.
