Blabbing and railing about something, even if there is truth to your point, diminishes the strength of it. Excellent rhetoric helps to convince. Poor rhetoric weakens.
This quote by Ben Jonson suggests that when truth is repeatedly defended or argued over too much, its inherent dignity and credibility can be undermined. The more one protests to prove the truth, the less convincing and dignified it becomes.
who said, "No race can proper until it learns there is as much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a book"
your dignity
Dignity and pride.
I hope I am reading this question correctly, forgive me if I'm wrong, but this man has lost respect for because of some action on your part? I realise that "losing it" is an expression, and that maybe you mean that you "lost your temper" with a man - but I doubt that you'd worry too much over that. ==== it all depends on what caused the loss of dignity, and if the circumstances which led to it are ever likely to cause you to lose it again. If you are absolutely certain that you won't react the same way again then I would suggest that you apologize to him - and to anyone with whom he may have lost his dignity because of your behaviour. Explain that it was a once-off and it won't happen again. You may need to do this in writing, choosing your words carefully. If he is truly interested then he will probably give you a period of 'probation', but don't expect to be welcomed back with open arms. (I speak as a man who had to recover his dignity with his wife! So what I'm saying is not gender-specific. I no how hard it can be to come up with just the right words.) It may be that he cannot or will not forgive, in which case you're better off without him. We all deserve a second chance, if we are really sorry for our actions. It will take time and effort to regain his trust, which will probably come some time before your dignity is restored to you. However, bear this in mind...."You" lost "your" dignity - what "he" lost is his respect for you. We create our own dignity, and its preservation is purely in our own hands.
Slaves did not gain much at all, although some lucky ones paid for their freedom. They lost their families, their dignity, the will to live, homes, friends and a lot more. It was not very nice for them.
Dignity refers to a sense of pride in oneself or the quality of being worthy of honor and respect. A sample sentence would be "She carried herself with so much dignity, until she stumbled and fell flat on her face".
A certain fraction of your dignity.
Truth is a statement of fact; Trust is something that needs to be earned over time. While different, they are both dependent on each other; Trust is lost when someone you trust doesn't tell you the Truth. And someone you don't Trust will rarely tell you the Truth. Consider this as well: A True friend will always tell you the Truth, no matter how much you may want to hear it, need to hear it, or have no desire for it because of how much it will hurt you. But that's why you've learned to Trust that friend to begin with.
How much you love that you are now force to tell the truth nothing but the truth is what I live for doesn't make sense!!!
