Declaration of IndependenceThe United States Declaration of Independence was influenced by the 1581 Dutch Republic declaration of independence, called the Oath of Abjuration. The Kingdom of Scotland's 1320 Declaration of Arbroath was undoubtedly also an influence as the first known formal declaration of independence. Jefferson is also thought to have drawn on the Virginia Declaration of Rights, which had been adopted in July 1776.
The Declaration relies heavily on the idea of the natural rights of man.
Well alot, almost to the point of plagarism. But for one point, Thomas Jeffersons famous phrase, Life , Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness was altered from the phrase John Licke used earlier on, Life, liberty, and property
because the union armies were already heavily demoralized
They were afraid they would lose their investments.
Jefferson leaned heavily on Jean-Jacques Rousseau by way of John Locke when writing the Declaration of Independence.

The Declaration of Independence (1776) draws heavily on Enlightenment ideas by stating that all individuals have natural rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The United States Constitution (1787) reflects Enlightenment principles by establishing a system of government with checks and balances and separation of powers. The Bill of Rights (1791) further incorporates Enlightenment ideas by protecting individual freedoms such as freedom of speech, religion, and the right to a fair trial.
John Locke's philosophy of natural rights, limited government, and social contract heavily influenced the founding fathers of the United States. His ideas on individual rights, government by consent, and separation of powers are reflected in documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, shaping the foundational principles of American democracy.
The economy was largely agricultural, very little manufacturing, it was based on private ownership of property and it was heavily dependent on overseas trade. Michael Montagne
Independence Day has been celebrated by the American people since July 4, 1776, with the signing of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain and the Crown. No one individual started it, although John Adams had written in a letter to his wife Abigail that it would become the most celebrated day in American history.
The Declaration of Independence is heavily based on John Locke's ideas in his "Second Treatise of Government". Thomas Jefferson's words: "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" were based on Locke's: "life, liberty and property". The first line of the Declaration that proclaims that "all men are created equal" and that it is our God given right to overthrow governments that aren't governing us properly comes directly from what Locke thought was man's "state of nature" and his idea of the "social contract". I'm not sure about any others.
John Locke was the Father of the Enlightenment. He had a major influence on Jefferson's works and overall mindset. The Declaration of Independence has aspects that are obviously inspired by Locke. "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" is not as original as one may believe. Locke's original statement was that a functional government should protect the people's "life, liberty and property."
Thomas Jefferson was the principle author of the group of 5 to write the Declaration of Independence. He drew heavily from John Locke's ideas of Natural Rights (Life, Liberty, and Property) which he turne into the famous Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

john Locke influenced Thomas Jefferson - and many of the Founding Fathers - heavily. Locke's influence on Jefferson in particular can be seen in the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson was inspired by Locke's belief that all people should be entitled to "life, liberty, and property," and Jefferson wrote the now-famous phrase in the Declaration that says all men are created equal and are entitled to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
