Anit-Federalists are strong supporters of states' rights. Many Anti-Federalists refused to sign the Constitution without a Bill of Rights, which they wanted to protect states' rights and individual rights. Thomas Jefferson was a major Anti-Federalist.

The Federalists were a group of individuals who supported the ratification of the United States Constitution and favored a strong central government. Some notable Federalists of the American Revolution include Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, John Adams, and George Washington. They believed that a strong central government was necessary to protect the rights and liberties of the new nation.

The Anti-Federalists were most angered by the fact that the Constitution had no bill of rights to protect the people. In order to get the Constitution ratified, the Federalists promised that adding a bill of rights would be the first thing the new Congress would do after the Constitution was put in place.
