How is War on Terror similar to Vietnam war?

They're not. The North Vietnamese Army wore uniforms and had a national flag; just like the German Army did in WWII. The North Vietnamese Air Force flew MiG 17s, MiG 19s, and MiG 21 jet aircraft; just like the German Luftwaffe flew Ju88s, ME109s, and FW190s in WWII. Terrorists have no flag.

Is the a us navy KIA symbol or insignia?

5 or more aerial victories (aerial kills) indicate an ace. Symbols used to designate air to air victories during WW2 were most often small paintings or decals of the enemy's flag. During the Vietnam War, US Pilots painted RED STARS on their jets with MIG-21 or MIG-17 or MIG-19 painted next to the RED STAR to indicate what type of jet he shot down. Red Stars indicated COMMUNISTS and was easier to use and remember; even though the North Vietnamese Air Force MiG's had a YELLOW star painted on them.

WHAT were the communest countries during the Vietnam war?

Communist North Vietnam supplied by the Communist Superpowers of the USSR & Red China: The Soviets supplied the North Vietnamese Air Force with MIG-17 & MIG-21 Jet Fighters, and the NVA with T-54/55 Tanks, SAM's, Artillery, Radar, etc. Red China supplied MIG-19 Jet Fighters (J-6 versions), trucks and Type 63 versions of the Soviet PT-76 light tanks. Both countries supplied unlimited AK-47 Assault Rifles and SKS Rifles and ammunition, and other infantry weapons, etc.

What was the aircraft kill ratio during Vietnam between migs and American aircraft?

A conservative estimate was about 2 to 1 in favor of the NVAF who were flyng MiG-17's up thru Rolling Thunder ('65-'68). In 1969, after the USN's Top Gun school opened in California, the air kills reversed; and US airmen were being credited with 3 & 4 to 1 kills in favor of the US. The best aerial kill ratio for a single jet fighter type, may have been accomplished by the USN's F8 Crusader (the last gunfighter) with a possible ratio of 19 to 1. Although most historians don't like to admit it, the MiG-21 was favored over the MiG-17 by NVAF pilots (and not the other way around). Most of the North Vietnamese pilots scored their aerial kills while flying the MiG-21. The North's MiG-17's may have gotten their favorite "status" from the early war years, when that was the only jet that US fighter pilots encountered on a regular basis. The North Vietnamese AF received their MiG-19's (J6 versions) strictly from Communist China in 1969, and their MiG-21's came strictly from the USSR. MiG-17's came from both super powers. The MiG-19 was an excellent jet, but because it had twin engines, it was a maintenance headache for the ground crews.

What were Communist guerrilla forces in Vietnam ere called?

NVA & VC (North Viet Army & Viet Cong), in SOUTH VIETNAM. What is a mig?

According to Wikipedia, a Mig-29 (the most commonly used mig currently) is "a 4th generation jet fighter aircraft designed for the air superiority role in the Soviet Union. Developed in the 1970s by the Mikoyan design bureau, it entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1983, and remains in use by the Russian Air Force as well as in many other nations. NATO's reporting name for the MiG-29 is "Fulcrum", which was unofficially used by Soviet pilots in service.[1] It was developed to counter new American fighters such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the F/A-18 Hornet" (Wikipedia - Mikoyan MiG-29). "Mig" is a general name of the Russian fighter aircraft. It is a shortened name for the aircraft made by the Mikoyan company. However over the years, "Mig" would refer to the current aircraft that was used by the Russians. So a pilot in the Viet Nam War might say he shot down a Mig which would refer to a Mig 21 jet. Sources Cited "Mikoyan MiG-35." 14 Jun 2008 . The name "MiG" stems from Mikoyan Gurivich, the aircraft designers.

Is the hal tejas a fourth generation aircraft or a mig 21 plus?

Both HAL Tejas as well as Mig21 are old rated aircrafts. HAL Tejas has been prepared by the Hindustan Aeronautical Limited for the best use of trainees and all. Mig21 in Indian Air Force has been grounded a long back ago. Both the planes don't match up with fourth generation.

What is the purpose of mig?

"Mig" is a term that refers to a Russian fighter and more specifically a jet-fighter made by the company Mikoyan-Gurevich. This term came into use by the US Air Force during Viet Nam War when referring to the Mig 17 or Mig 19 or Mig 21 fighter jets. So the Mig was a jet fighter used to attack bombers or other fighters. Does that answer your Question? Great answer I just have a little more that might help The exact purpose of a MiG would have to be determined by the model of MiG itself. Most of the Mig's like the 15,17,19,21,23 where strictly fighter's the 25,31 are interceptors for shooting down bombers not dog fights, and the 27 is a ground attack striker Last but not least is the 29 This is basically the Russian version of a f 15 it can be used in diffrent capacities from fighter to strike as well as intercepter

Why were the S.A.M in the Vietnam war?

SAM's (Surface to Air Missiles), known by US Airmen as the "Flying Telephone Poles" were part of North Vietnam's air defensive network. They worked in conjunction with North Vietnam's Air Force; NVAF MIG-17, MIG-19, and MIG-21 jet intercepters would often dog-fight US jets, then lure them over the SAM sites...breaking contact to let the SAM's deal with the US aircraft. Didn't always work, sometimes the SAMs took out (shot down) some of their own MIGs (friendly fire).
