With the exceptions of the US M113 ACAVs and M41 Walker Bulldog light tanks, it was as "historically" correct as funding and script/military technical advisors could make it.
The M113s should have had ACAV sets on them (if they were missing) and the US didn't use M41 Bulldog tanks, the ARVNs did; but it is understandable that the producers couldn't get ahold of M48 Patton tanks. Full Metal Jacket was the same way, they used M41 tanks too, when they were supposed to be M48 Pattons. Also, "Full Metal Jacket" was less historically correct than Hamburger Hill was.
