Some have used the flag as a shaul or head covering, and these are traditionally acceptable in the context that it is being done out of respect and love for the Flag and what it stands for.

Cut or tear the flag
improperly fold the flag
improperly store the flag.
Discard the flag in a refuse bin or dump.
Traditionally, if any of these things have occurred with your flag, the flag needs to be burned to prevent further disrespect to the flag.
