The US Embassy hostages in Iran.
Radical followers of the Ayatollah Khomeini overran the U.S. Embassy and took Americans hostage to protest the admission of the Shah of Iran into the United States for medical treatment, or because the US was spying on Iran from inside the embassy.

No. Although Iraq began a war with Iran while the Hostage Crisis was ongoing, it was seen by the US government as a war between two brutal dictatorships; both of them unfriendly to the United States, and a war in which the United States wanted neither side to win. Sadaam Hussein in Iraq was never seen as a US ally, any more than the Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran was seen as a US ally.
Before 1979, Iran was very friendly and welcoming to the US. Iran was a very close ally of the US. After the revolution of 1979, the Iranian government declared the US a satanic nation.
yes
NO. Ayatollah Khomeini ruled IRAN in the 1980s and was a determined ENEMY of the United States.
CBS Reports - 1959 Iran Brittle Ally 1-3 was released on: USA: 18 December 1959
syria had an recent conflict with lebanon iraq and saudi arabia iran is so called the ally of iran
The US had always been a strong ally of Shah Pahlavi, the previous ruler of Iran before the Ayatollah Khomeini's revolution, and just as the new theocracy had rebelled against the corrupt regime of the Shah, so too did they rebel against the Shah's cynical ally, the US. Of course, in so doing, they set in motion a conflict that continues to this day in various ways, and is highly destructive. It was not a smart move.
Since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein (2003) and the US occupation there (2003-2011), Iraq is considered an ally of the United States and continues to receive military and foreign aid. The neighboring country of Iran, which has supplied guerrillas and other factions fighting the US, is considered (unofficially) an enemy of the United States.
It depends. Prior to 1979 Iran was a wholly supported ally of the United States. It was specifically designated a U.S. special interest state and the government of Shah Reza Pahlavi was fully backed by the US with money, food and arms. After the fundamentalist revolution it was feared that Iran would become a Soviet bloc ally, or puppet state; this did not happen. Iran is almost as wary of Russia as it is the US. They do have a shared border and sea, and do have some trade agreements, yet they actually have had better relations with some European nations, including Germany and France. Being as Iran does not want any part of the US or Russia dictating terms to them, it is unlikely that Russia would defend them against anything but a US invasion of Iran. That is not a highly likely proposition. During the Iran - Iraq wars Russia actually provided some support to Iraq, while the US had made some backroom deals on both sides of the conflict (Iran-Contra scandal).
Syria, Some parts of Lebanon and Lebanese party's, and in some way you can call the "Palestinian republic's" president a ally to Iran and Ahmadinejad.
not really i guess they would be a co-belligerent
