The direct answer to the question is that the Dred Scott decision was good for slave owners. In a larger sense it was not good at all. The decision by the US Supreme Court was more important to the United States than it was to slave holder Dred Scott.

This was so because in an 1857 Supreme Court decision, slaves in the United States, whether in bondage or freed men & women, could never be US citizens.

This decision was a setback for the antislavery abolitionists and a victory of sorts for slave owners.

Taken in its totality it was a setback for the United States as a whole.

The above answer is correct, however, if there was "good" in the Dredd Scott decision it was that the US Supreme Court made it clear what its position on slavery was. Thereby giving opponents of slavery ground to stand on in their efforts to limit or abolish slavery.
