Cleopatra was basically no different from the other members of her dynasty, except that she was the last one. She was just as autocratic, avaricious, and murderous as her ancestors. She followed the family tradition.

What impact did the death of Julius Caesar have on Cleopatra and Egyptian history?

Wow that's big. Julius's death put a bee in Octavian's bonnet to go around killing Caesars assassins. After Octavian finally finished them off his triumvirate fell apart. One of the other members started a war with him and went to Egypt and married Cleopatra. Because the Egyptian forces joined with that of his enemy Octavian destroyed Alexandria and killed Cleopatra ending the reign of the Pharaohs.

Who did Cleopatra's family rule after?

Cleopatra was the last member of the Ptolemaic Dynasty, which was founded by Ptolemy I Soter, a general of Alexander the Great, when he made himself king in 305 BC. Before Ptolemy I, the rulers were Alexander the Great and members of his family. Alexander ruled from 332 to 323. He was followed, nominally, by his half brother and son, from 323 to 305, but the actual ruler during this time was Ptolemy, who was acting as governor. Alexander took Egypt from the Persian emperor Artaxerxes III, who had ruled it from 343 to 332. Before that, it had been ruled for some time by native Egyptian pharaohs.

What color was Cleopatra's hair?

Cleopatra was in fact a Macedonian Greek who was fair skinned and either a brunette or blonde. She had no Egyptian, Carthaginian, or any other type African blood in her body. She was the last of 12 Pharoahs of the Ptolemaic Dynasty who were put into power by Alexander the Great, (a Macedonian Greek) when he conquered the Middle East. The Ptolemy's interbred so there was no possible way of her have been anything other than Greek. Cleopatra followed this line of interbreeding between family members by marrying two of her brothers before the whole Caesar and Marc Antony mess. This information can be found on many numerous credited history sites online as well as in actual history books. Most people associate the Cleopatra they have seen on TV and in Movies as the actual historical figure where they portray her as being dark skinned or Egyptian.

What is Cleopatra's physical description?

The latest facial reconstruction of Cleopatra that I am aware of is by Dr. Martin Weaver, whose work appears in Diana Preston's bio of Cleopatra. It is disappointing if you are expecting to find an ancient beauty. Using the various coin images of Cleopatra at the different times of her reign and of known images of the inbred Ptolemies, he constructed a surprising image of the queen. All the coins and statues of her confirm that she had high cheekbones, small eyes, a large nose and pronounced chin and an underhang beneath the jaw. Being a Ptolemy, as evidenced from statues of other members of her dynasty, she would tend to be chubby and as stated in the book "quite plump". The image of her at the temple at Dendera and the stylized statues of her, support this.
