Moderately. It remained far less developed than the western industrial powers, but advanced enough to worry Germany's leaders.

It was successful because many workers now had higher paid jobs and better working conditions increasing satisfaction and subsequently production levels. The education levels of the country became a lot better and further many learnt to work hard. However life was harsh under Stalin's rule with strict punishments and fines for not meeting targets. Many died under the strict manual labor and many more were killed for not working hard enough.
