Slaves were traded for many things, and tea was probably traded, but not as a lone item. When they are sold, they were more often bought with money than traded.
Most of the Chesapeake area slaves were sold because they were in the North before the Civil War and the North was supposedly against slavery. Many slaves were traded or sold if they were not performing as promised.

The triangular trade affected slave trade by increasing the number of slaves available to be traded. Because there were more goods to trade for slaves and more ports being visited there were more slaves to trade. The triangle trade, however, resulted in more deaths of slaves before reaching their final destination as ships were so overcrowded with slaves.
