Some tombs were empty because grave robbers robbed the tomb of its riches.
I don't know exactly how many, but I know there are Egyptian pyramids, Aztec and Mayan pyramids, unfinished pyramids, and rock pyramids, and sand pyramids.
The hyroplypgs and pictographs in, or outside a pyramid would include warnings to possible grave robbers, aswell as the story of the pyramids "occupant"
The Egyptians buried there dead in small sand dunes inside the desert. They still did this after pyramids for pyramids were only made for the wealthy. Also the pyramids were only made around the early ancient Egypt, and they switched over to chambers underneath the ground because of grave robbers. Most grave robbers still found a way into these but mysteriously King Tuts tomb was found, not by grave robbers, but by 20th century Egyptologists. I know this is more than you asked but it never hurts to know a little more! Resources: I've been searching up this for a little over a month.
Well, Akhenaton was a great pharaoh and contributed to society, so I very highly doubt they would just not care. There were many grave robbers in ancient Egypt, so there is a high chance that it just got robbed and sold for money.
