The purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to tell the world that the colonies were now independent states. It states all the reasons why they should be free. The people have a duty to abolish a government that does not protect their rights, King George had become a Tyrant.

The Declaration of Independence was the document that stated that the U.S. was to be independent from Britain. It stated our grievances against the king and explained that the government was to run by the people, for the people.

It didn’t. It wasn’t meant for the English people, but a letter to the king laying out the reasons for Independence.
The reason that people signed the Declaration of Independence is that they agreed with the statement made by that document, and they wished to demonstrate their support, in the hope that the colonies would become independent (which did happen, as you probably know).
That phrase "We the people..." is not in the Declaration of Independence. It is in the US Constitution.
