When deaths from wounds are included in the count, the number rises significantly. The Army only reported deaths while soldiers were still in service. Some analysts have published figures of 420,000, 480,000, and more. Some analysts have attempted to also estimate how many of the missing were actually killed; some deserted, some were captured, and some died in unknown places. It is very difficult to get accurate computations!
