Answer A Battalion of an Infantry Division contained 4 Infantry companies. There were 3 Infantry Regiments within a Division, and each regiment was divided into 3 Battalions---thus the name "Triangular Division". An infantry companycontained about 250 men. One of the 4 companies was a Heavy Weapons company that operated heavy machine guns and mortars. The Battalion was commanded by a Colonel and included a HQ staff. Total was about 1000 men.
