The Japanese had 10 classes of carriers during the time
The Japanese attack force lost 55 airmen, nine submariners and one submariner was taken prisoner.
It wasn't the "battle of pearl harbor", the U.S. navy didn't attack until they realized they were under attack until a few of their ships blew up....(Its the Attack on Pearl Harbor) Anyways, 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,402 personnel were killed and 1,282 were wounded. Ships: Four U.S. battleships were sunk (two of which were raised and returned to service later in the war) and all of the four other battleships present were damaged. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers three destroyers an anti-aircraft training ship and one minelayer.
In order to prevent sabotage attempts against parked aircraft by local Japanese-Americans, the military authorities lined them up wingtip to wingtip on their airstrips so that they could be easily observed. However, this plan backfired horrendously during the actual Japanese attack, as the lines of planes were easily strafed by Japanese fighters. During the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese destroyed 188 US planes and heavily damaged 159 more, largely because of these tactics.
No, however some Japanese pilots that were shot down or damaged tried to crash their aircraft into something important.

An attack on the main Russian Pacific fleet at Port Arthur during the Russo-Japanese War
the Japanese hit the U.S.S Arizona leaving 1,200 dead
There were no submarines sunk or damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor; all vessels either sunk or damaged were capital ships (battleships, cruisers, etc.) or support vessels (tenders, tugs, etc.).
The Japanese needed to carry out a pre-emptive strike on the Western region using bombers. The attack needed to have all the ships docked at Pearl Harbor for the attack to be devastating enough.
