The City of Rome has existed until the present day from it's founding in around 753 BC .

The Roman Empire began to fracture when it was split, to make it easier to administer, into the Western (based originally in Rome) and Eastern (based in Byzantium, which was expanded and renamed Constantinople) Roman Empires in 285 A.D.

The last Roman Emperor to rule over both the Western and Eastern Empires was Theodosius I, who died in 395 A.D. After this point, the empire ruled by Rome was attacked by many tribes and reduced in power until it was finally taken over by a barbarian king, Odoacer, in 476 A.D. This is often taken as the end of the Western Roman Empire. By this point, Rome was not even in control of all of Italy. Taking this as the end point, the last Romans were around until just under 1550 years ago.

The origin of the Roman Empire is lost in history. It started sometime around 500 B.C. After the death of Constantine, it divided into Eastern and Western Empires. In 476 A. D. the western branch ended and the eastern branch headquartered in Constantinople took over the empire. When King Pippin conquered West Europe, he ended all the power of the Roman Empire in Western Europe. The Arabs conqueered The Levant, North Africa, and Spain. Then finally in 1453 The Turks conquered Constantinople and the last vestiges of the Roman Empire ended. So, the Roman Empire took about 650 years to reach its maximum extent and then it took 1,300 years to die. It would be about like a person growing and maturing until he reaches 27 or 28 and then declining until he reaches 100 and dies. wow u r right

The history of ancient Rome spanned from 753 BC to the late 5th century AD; that is, some 1200 years.
