Bear baiting was a repugnant form of blood sport: a bear would be chained to a post in the ring, still able to move, but not escape, and dogs would be set on the animal. Spectators would bet on whether it would be the dogs or the bear that would survive the vicious fight that ensued.

Julius Caesar was murdered by a group of conspirators, namely, Brutus,Cassius, Decius, Ligarius, Cinna, Casca, Metellus Cimber, who gathered around him during the filing of petitions in the Capitol and Casca was the first one to strike at him, from behind, with a dagger. All conspirators did so and Brutus was the last one to stab him. Caesar could not bear the pain of seeing a dear friend of his,Brutus, stabbing him. He died with both pain and shock.
As part of his conversation with Brutus, Cassius relates two stories suggesting that Caesar is physically weak. In the first, he describes a time when Caesar challenged him to a swimming contest, but Cassius ended up having to save Caesar from drowning. In the other, he describes a time when Caesar was sick in Spain and was wussy about being sick. He concludes, "Ye gods, it doth amaze me a man of such feeble temper should so get the start of the majestic world, and bear the palm alone."
