The Vietnam War is the most famous, but there were many other wars which were part of the greater conflict known as the Cold War. They were armed clashes between Communist and Free Word ideologies, fought in Third World nations. Without the Cold War, the Vietnam War would have simply been a colonial war between the Vietnamese and the French. Vietnam was divided (as Korea was) into North and South. The North was backed by Communism, and the South was backed by the Free World, although in the end the US paid the highest price for it.
