I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing when I hear a song that evokes memories from my past. And I am only talking about the songs that touched a part of me when I first heard them. And when I hear a particular song, it will envoke memories that are so close, so real, it will either make me smile, laugh or cry my heart out.
Perhaps it is the repetivenes of the verses you tend to memorize or the tune itself you hum along with, which you most likely played over and over or heard it all the time on the radio. That song became an imprint on your brain associated with the events in your life at the time.
