The coast guard is a little bit smaller than the New York police department. We have a much smaller budget than any other branch of the military thus our vessels are very old. However we are begging to slowly get new cutters and small boats. The army is bigger than all the branches put to together has an incredible large budget. Don't forget though the Coast Guard has missions to carry out even during peace time the army and the other branches simply train while there is no war or conflict. The Coast Guard also is the only branch that is authorized to board civilian vessels to look for drugs and illegaly harvested goods i.e. fish and lumber. Even the navy cannot do this unless under direct orders from the C.N.C.
